Ayrburn Domain Precinct under construction

08/11/21

Down a winding lane past the old Ayburn Homestead is Winton’s stunning addition to the Queenstown Cuisine Culture, a food and hospitality destination that will be loved by many. Ayburn Domain is surrounded by breathtaking scenery and beautifully manicured landscaping and restorative planting. It doesn’t take much to dream of long lunches outside with friends, enjoying local wine and appreciating the history steeped in the walls around you.

Ayburn Domain Precinct is made up of a collection of original farm buildings that were once a stables, cart shed, dairy and woolshed. The heritage buildings were reimagined and repurposed to embrace their heritage and celebrate their character as part of the design process. The destination precinct will include a landmark restaurant, bar, cellar door, delicatessen and parlour.

Remediation works on the buildings started in October 2021 and the photos below show them starting their substantial remediation process. While embracing the history as much as possible, the buildings need to be made safe and resilient for their next life as Ayburn Domain. You can see one image of a rooftop that needs some work; the construction team will delicately deconstruct this roof, rebuild a new safe hidden structure, and then recreate this now important curved roof feature to keep telling the story of this buildings important heritage past.

The entire project will take approximately 18 months and we look forward to opening the doors to our first guests in 2023.

The abundance of acclaimed cycling and walking tracks around Ayrburn will add to the vibrancy of the precinct and useful connections to the adjacent properties of Millbrook Resort and Waterfall Park. Ayrburn is perfectly positioned just minutes from Arrowtown, 15 minutes from Queenstown and 35 minutes from Wanaka.
