More transport options for Lakeside residents with a new daily bus service between Te Kauwhata and Hamilton

30/01/19

Following community feedback on how to better meet the transport needs of Te Kauwhata, the Waikato District and Regional Councils have recently announced a new bus service.

As of 29 January 2019, the new weekday bus service will travel to and from Te Kauwhata in the morning (departing at 7am) and evening (departing the Hamilton Transport centre at 5.35pm), travelling via Huntly, Ngaruawahia, The Base, Hamilton Transport Centre and terminating at Waikato University.

In addition, other changes have been made to the following services:

  • The current Hamilton to Pukekohe service will now operate every weekday, compared to the current once a fortnight service;
  • The Huntly internal service will now run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, three times a day; and
  • The Huntly Assist and Horotiu Assist services will be combined into one bus route.

These new weekday bus services further support the desire of many Kiwis to enjoy a rural lifestyle, while still being connected to larger cities.  Future residents of Lakeside will welcome the initiative by the Waikato Regional Council and Waikato District Council so that they can more easily connect with employment opportunities, amenities, education and the social communities south of Te Kauwhata.
